Win Over Piner End Pre-Season on High Note
Ground Game & Defense Highlight Blowout
An improved offensive line from their loss to Hercules a week ago set the tone as Galileo rushed their way to 4 touchdowns in a blowout victory against the visiting Prospectors. Sophomore running back, Yarvell Smith continued to shine for the Lions with three scores on the ground (60, 25, 1) and one through the air, a 54-yard catch and run from QB, Adrian Poot. Juniors, Ronald Fox and Jimmie Edwards were also recipients of good blocking that helped them get into the end zone.
Still looking for their first shutout, Galileo’s defense limited Piner to 7 points despite multiple trips into the redzone. Potential all city corner, Fox continued to knock down passes while middle backers, Antonio McBride and Edwards are racking up tackles and creating turnovers. Galileo’s defense has limited their last three opponents to a total of four touchdowns.
The varsity squad finished pre-season with a 2-1 record. With a bye week coming up, they will have ample time to heal up and prep for their first league game against Burton.
Big Defensive Plays win Sloppy Game
The young Prospectors would answer with a nifty cutback run to tie things up but that would only set up Baker’s redemption that gave Galileo the lead for good on a 95-yard pick-6. Baker plucked a tipped pass by corner, Brandon Ho. In the end, the young Lions defense stood tall for a 2-0-1 pre-season finish.
