Game 11: Burton “Senior Game”

Galileo Earns Playoff Berth with Senior Game Victory

Galileo V 24-16 40
Burton V 00-06 06

Senior quarterback, Phillip Tran was at his best by throwing 9/9 for 4 scores and running in for a 2-point conversion. Tran connected with fellow senior receiver, Rodney Morgan for 3 touchdowns and another with senior running back, Jamari Hilliard-Vasquez. The other touchdown belonged to Morgan who, after throwing a bad pass that was picked off, reconciled his error by picking off a Burton pass in the next play and running it in for a score. With the brilliant offensive output, Galileo’s defense also played well with a first half shutout. A deep pass down the middle put the Pumas on the board in the third quarter to break up the shutout bid.

This “Senior Game” wasn’t all about the old guys as sophomore, Donovan Hasson picked off 2 passes and narrowly missed a third for a total of 4 this season. In his first varsity start, sophomore linebacker, Connor Chavela was more than capable in complimenting 3-year starter Hilliard-Vasquez. Two other sophs contributed; defensive tackle, Angel Salado had 3 tackles for loss and running back, Markell Vilce had 2 runs that gave the home-crowd something extra to cheer about.

Galileo will travel to Lincoln for the playoff game on Thusday, November 20 for a 2pm kick off.
