Galileo V 22-29 41
Mills V 12-08 20
Mired in mental errors and an inconsistent effort, Galileo pulled out a win at Mills in their season opener, 41-20. Quincy Nelson led the run-attack with 214 yards on 22 carries while quarterback, Jonathan Lu added 159 yards on 13 carries and 71 yards on 4-5 passing. Nelson’s 3 touchdowns fueled the lions and Lu’s 96 yard TD scamper was the highlight. Robbie Trumbo’s 30-yard run and Demarreay Greer’s 50-yard up the sideline rounded out the rest of the scoring.
Defensively, Galileo’s secondary gave up a few big plays but when it counted, they kept Mill’s pass-first offense out of the end zone. Mills’ quarterback, Brandon Berkovatz finished 16-33 for 160 yards but was kept out of the endzone with Nelson picking off a pass up the middle on a 2-point conversion play.
Safety, Trumbo, led all Galileo tacklers with 5 solo and 3 assists. Nelson, Lu and Adam Chen each recorded a sack. The ground game racked up 520 yards for the lions.
