PURPLE vs ORANGE SPRING GAME 2014

MANALANG SCORES TWICE IN PURPLE VICTORY

In the Purple vs Orange Spring Game, senior defensive tackle, Matt Fronda, despite not playing in a game since his freshman season, showed his dominance on defense for the Orange-Fronda played the roll of the “Terminator” with a habit of being around the ball to make tackle after tackle. Fronda capped off a career day with an unlikely INT which doesn’t happen every day for DT’s. The Orange also included Galileo’s #1 defensive player in third year starter at middle linebacker, Jamari Hilliard-Vasquez. This time around, JHV’s offensive play was slightly more impressive because he was never called upon to play the “O” in the last 2 seasons due to another fella named Fox.

Kyle Nelson Voted All-Metro First Team & MaxPreps DII 2nd Team All-State

Congratulations to Galileo’s All-Metro selections, led by quarterback, Kyle Nelson, who was voted onto the first team all-metro offensive squad and as 1 of 4 top regional players in the 2013 season. Nelson claims the “Metro-best 58 total TDs” title and was AAA CIF-SF’s Player of the Year. The 58 scores include 11 rushing TD’s and 47 passing (27 in league, 6 in the post-season, & to satisfy all the arguments about Nelson’s inflated stats due to the “irrelevancy of the AAA”-Nelson has 14 in 4 non-league contests, giving him a modest 3.66 TD’s per league contest and 3.5 TD’s per non-league contest). Nelson also garnered 2nd Team All-State honors by Maxpreps for division II.

2013 BYE WEEK SCHEDULE (update 9/23)

GALILEO-PURPLE-TEE.jpgGalileo’s varsity squad finished with a 3-1 non-league record heading into the bye week before league play. The off-season is done. The pre-season is done. It’s time to work even harder heading into league for the regular season. In the end, your reward is the post season.

Last season, we started a new tradition during the bye week, we call it “Appreciation Week” in which we celebrate each grade within our team and take part in our “Coaches’ Challenge”. Each grade level will compete against the coaching staff in various events.

2013 Points Account

This is the final tally of the 2013 Lions Points System. If there are disputes for missing points, please take it up with Coach Mark. Usually, written notices & photos are much better for argument than just your words. Players must have a minimum of 200 points to play in a game-find work and earn what you need or you will find yourself missing a few games.

IMG_3867Congratulations to Scottie Prom (holding up the sign in the photo)-with 384 points, he is 2o13’s “Mr. Lion”. That usually means some kind of award-check with Coach Mark when he’s in a good mood.
