A “Purple Heart” is awarded to the best effort of the week in multiple categories. It’s not about stats or highlights but about effort. Although PH’s for the game is vital to winning, the scout players of the week are held in higher regards by the coaching staff. This player gives a game-like effort everyday. Congratulations to all the recipients!
The 2011 varsity roster includes 12 sophomores, 7 juniors, and 10 seniors. After graduating 20 plus seniors in each of the last 2 seasons, Galileo looks to gain experience this season while making a push for the playoffs. Sophomores highlight the “glamorous” positions; Kyle nelson (QB), Ronzel Fox (FB/LB), Dontell Jackson (RB/DB). The juniors looking to put a stamp on defense are Nick Toy (DT) and Nestor Acosta (NT). Seniors, Anthony Lam and Edward Luu have been wonderful surprises as leaders.
The 2011 coaching staff did not retain Dominic Mullens and Charlie Kaine from 2010 due to a conflict in job scheduling. Coach Ben Moore returns in a 75% capacity after a time-challenging 2010 season. Coach Steve Santoro, who played at Yale, brings an east coast experience. Coach Saepate Vasa who grew up in chinatown and attended Galileo his freshman year, is in a semi-homecoming although he graduated from Rodriguez High in Fairfield. In addition, coaches Israel Jones round out a 6-man staff.
The 2011 Media Guide will feature the upcoming 2011 season and a look back at the 2010 season. The guide features a who’s who guide to players, coaching staff, G-Staff, and administrators along with the following info; Galileo football history, a feature about Galileo, a recap of the 2010 season games, photos of the previous season and the off-season sessions (Winter Camp, Spring Ball, Summer Camp). Thank you for supporting Galileo Football.
