2011 Theme: ONE TEAM
From the Classroom to the Field, One Team
By Michal Brzozek, DT/OT 2012
Just like one body has many parts, the Galileo Football team is made up of different parts that work in unison to make one team that strives for one goal; winning the AAA title. This one team is bred, nurtured and guided by the coaching staff and G-Staff. Last season we made it to the playoffs, we fought hard, but in the end we were not able to capture the title. We had the mentality, the toughness, the courage, but we were lacking unison. The gears weren’t in their right places, and we just didn’t quite click. This will all change this coming year.
The Galileo Football team will be one team, working hard during the off-season, and even harder during the season, functioning like clockwork. But first it all starts in the classroom. In order to be one team, we must all be academically ready. We can’t ever give up on our grades, especially after the season because those grades guarantee our success in life. The players and the coaches will be constantly reminding us to work our hardest in the classroom, so we can do the same on the field.
As a Galileo football player, I know my team will always have my back on and off the field. They will support me as a student, an athlete, and a person, and I will support them. Right now we need to hit the weights to get stronger and faster. We need to compete with each other in the weight room, and this will set our mentality. Tougher practices will mean that we are getting that much better. And if one of us fall behind, we will all go back and help them, encourage them, and be with them because these are the people that will be standing next to us on the sideline when it comes to T-Day.
I think that the most important aspect of being one team means that we are able to communicate with each other. The players should be constantly communicating with themselves, the coaches, the G-Staff, and their teachers. My personal goal for this coming season will be to always be on the same page as my team, and make sure they are on the same page as me. In the end we should be like synchronized watches ticking away on the field, blocking, tackling, scoring and winning against every opponent we face.
The 2011 season will be a test for the Galileo Football program. We have made it to the playoffs two years in a row, and we need to prove that no matter what changes we go through, we will be able to string together an outstanding football team. We need to prove that we are one team, working in unison, striving and fighting together. We are the lions, and we are hungry for another AAA title.
